Muslims worldwide gather for Eid al-Adha 2026 prayers. Thousands congregate at Al-Aqsa Mosque as the Ummah prays for relief in Gaza, political stability, and peace.
In occupied East Jerusalem, a profound sense of unity was felt as thousands of Palestinian worshippers flooded the historic Al-Aqsa Mosque on the morning of Eid. Standing shoulder to shoulder, the congregation filled the prayer halls and outer courtyards to capacity.
Despite the initial holiday spirit, the atmosphere remained somber. Worshippers expressed that their hearts and minds were heavily occupied with the profound suffering and hardships being endured by their brethren in Gaza and the West Bank. Local attendees stated their profound hope for a future of permanent liberation, peace, and security across all of Palestine.
In Egypt, the capital city of Cairo came alive with traditional Eid festivities. Streets and public squares were filled with large crowds, and children celebrated with colorful balloons in hand. Local residents noted that the true essence of Eid al-Adha lies in the joy of sacrifice and, most importantly, spreading happiness by distributing meat to the needy, the poor, and the underprivileged segments of society.
Similar large congregations took place in Iraq, with massive crowds gathering at the holy shrine of Imam Hussein in Karbala, as well as the Al-Nouri Mosque in the war-torn city of Mosul. In Libya, congregations in the capital city of Tripoli were marked by an overwhelming desire for national unity. Worshipers made earnest supplications for the country’s political stability, cohesive governance, and economic growth.
Meanwhile, in Damascus, Syria, the local population gathered at the Al-Thawra Mosque to perform their Eid prayers. However, attendees noted that ongoing economic strain, a lack of employment opportunities, and general hardship continue to cast a shadow over what would otherwise be a completely joyous holiday.
Across the Ummah, the overarching sentiment of this Eid remains a collective plea for stability, an end to military conflict, and a return to prosperity for all Muslims.
