A relentless wave of Israeli settler violence, systematically backed by the military, is sweeping across the occupied West Bank, leaving a trail of devastation, displacement, and death in its wake. In the village of Al-Mughayyir, northeast of Ramallah, this escalating campaign recently claimed the life of Fadi Hamdallah al-Naasan, a 17-year-old Palestinian national youth team footballer.
Al-Naasan died on July 18, 2026, a week after being shot in the thigh with an explosive live bullet during a coordinated settler and military raid on his village. The teenager, who played for the Al-Mughayyir Club, sustained the fatal injury on July 11 when Israeli forces and armed settlers attacked the home of the Abu Aliya family. Despite undergoing a leg amputation, the young athlete succumbed to his wounds in the hospital. Following his death, dozens of mourners dressed in black carried his body from the Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah to his village for burial.
Video footage from the July 11 siege on the Abu Aliya family compound reveals the terrifying reality of these incursions. Armed Israeli settlers were recorded breaking into the village, surrounding the property, and beating on the gates with clubs. Rafeeq Abu Ali, a resident of Al-Mughayyir, recounted that the settlers arrived with sheep, laid siege to the home, and began insulting the residents. When the Israeli army arrived, instead of stopping the attackers, soldiers entered the house and beat the Palestinians inside. The soldiers then gently ushered the settlers away, making no arrests and completely failing to confiscate their weapons.
This violence is part of a deliberate and expanding territorial conquest. In the nearby village of Khirbet Abu Falah, olive farmer Brahim Hamayel described how the attacks have aggressively shifted from agricultural fields directly into the heart of Palestinian residential communities. Hamayel noted that his neighbors have been deeply traumatized, with their houses and cars frequently burned down in broad daylight.
The systemic displacement of Palestinians is heavily tied to the rapid expansion of illegal settler outposts. Under the current Israeli government, at least 231 new outposts have been established. Farm outposts alone now effectively control 18 percent of the entire West Bank, driving out over 100 Palestinian communities from their ancestral lands.
This land grab is violently enforced by heavily armed settler groups and local security squads known as "Hagmar". Adar Lafair, a settler farmer, openly stated that the Hagmar's explicit role is to "create a conquest" and protect Israeli residents on land where they previously did not dare to walk. Highlighting the extremist ideology driving these actions, his wife, Rivka Lafair, admitted on camera that she dreams of the squads eventually conquering a neighboring Palestinian village entirely.
Throughout these assaults, the Israeli military operates in tandem with the settlers. When Palestinians attempt to defend their homes against settler arson and violence, the Israeli army actively intervenes on behalf of the settlers, frequently firing live rounds, stun grenades, and tear gas directly at Palestinian civilians. A former Israeli soldier acknowledged this dynamic, noting that extremist settlers view Palestinians simply as targets, operating with absolute impunity and zero fear of legal consequences.
