Surviving Israel's Genocidal Assault
Sama is a direct survivor of an Israeli air strike that devastated her family unit. The bombardment instantly killed her mother and all of her siblings. Although Sama was eventually pulled alive from beneath the heavy concrete rubble, she sustained severe, lasting injuries to her head.
Her father survived the attack but suffered catastrophic physical trauma, losing both his left arm and his lower limbs to the blast.

Living with the Complications of War Injury
Months after the initial tragedy, the long-term physical and emotional consequences of the bombing continue to threaten the young girl's development. The severe head injuries she suffered have caused major medical complications, specifically affecting her eyesight.
According to her relatives, Sama suffers from chronic, severe swelling in her eyes that leaves her struggling to see clearly. Her family fears that her vision will permanently deteriorate without access to specialized medical treatment—an ongoing challenge given Israel's deliberate, genocidal destruction of Gaza’s medical infrastructure.
The Psychological Toll of Genocide
The trauma has manifested deep psychological wounds for the four-year-old child. Relatives recall watching her retreat into temporary shelter tents, completely isolated from others. When questioned about why she goes inside, Sama explains that she believes she has seen her deceased mother there.
She continually asks about her mother and father, questioning those around her on when her family members will return. Despite the pervasive grief and the surrounding ruins of Gaza City, Sama occasionally finds the strength to smile and play, attempting to navigate her altered reality.
