Praise be to Allah, and blessings and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah.
Many Muslim women wonder whether it is permissible or obligatory for them to attend the Eid prayers. The authentic Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) provides clear and beautiful guidance on this matter.
The Islamic Ruling on Eid Prayer for Women
Eid prayer is not obligatory (Wajib) for women, but it is a highly confirmed Sunnah (Sunnah Mu'akkadah). It is strongly prescribed for women to offer this prayer in the prayer-place (Musalla) or the Masjid with the Muslims, as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ explicitly commanded them to do so.
The Authentic Evidence
The command for women to attend the Eid gathering is established in the most authentic books of Hadith. Umm 'Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) said:
According to another narration recorded by At-Tirmidhi, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to bring out the virgins, adolescent girls, women in seclusion, and menstruating women on the two Eids. The menstruating women were instructed to keep away from the actual prayer place but to witness the gathering and the supplications of the Muslims.

The emphasis on women attending the Eid gathering is so profound that not owning the proper outer garment (Jilbab) is not an excuse to stay home. In the continuation of the Hadith of Umm 'Atiyyah, one of the women asked:
Conditions for Women Going Out to the Masjid
Based on the comprehensive evidence of the Shari'ah, it is clear that women attending the Eid prayers is a confirmed Sunnah. However, this is subject to strict conditions to preserve modesty and piety. When a woman goes out to the Musalla or Masjid, she must:
Not wear perfume or fragrance.
Not go out making a wanton display of her beauty (Tabarruj).
Avoid free-mixing (Ikhtilat) with men in the streets and at the doors of the Masjid.
